STEAM for the 21 Century

STEAM for the 21 Century

Liberty School of Creativity and Innovation uses the integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) and 21st Century learning through the four C’s: creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication. These concepts are infused throughout the curriculum every single day to ensure the students at Liberty are receiving the best opportunities to be as creative and innovative as they can be.
Each grade level approaches and participates in the concept of STEAM differently with the integration of drama, fine arts, computer coding, robotics, and engineering. For instance, the second graders have a musical theatre elective class in which during the trimester awards assembly the students give a traditional folktale performance. Some other variations of STEAM is incorporated in educational field trips which can include: theatre performances, science museums, Riley’s Farm, which is a working apple orchard and living history farm where students get to see historical reenactments, and career field trips are taken by the 6th graders to career readiness by visiting community colleges and universities.
While Liberty focuses on STEAM and 21st Century learning, the school has also created a community that is made up of students, parents, and staff. Community allows everyone to work together to support students, to be a part of student’s environments together to help each individual be successful and to hold themselves accountable to the expectations to ensure student success.
